Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Karen fell at home on August 27.  She had surgery for a hip fracture with further tests revealing a brain tumor.  On September 1, she was diagnosed with an incurable brain cancer, glioblastoma.  This is the type of cancer that resulted in John McCain's death.  It also caused a seizure that caused her to fall. Her doctor thanked her for undergoing the surgery because they gained valuable information that may someday help another person/family  to survive this insidious cancer.
On September 6, Karen was transferred to Mercy One North Iowa Hospice, Room 5, 232 2nd St. S.E. Mason City, Iowa 50401 Phone number 641-428-6208. Preferred visitation is 9am-7pm. Limit of 2 visitors at a time.  Masks are required. Karen's cell number is 641-420-1006.

Karen is receiving pain medications and is alert and responsive.  She is enjoying contact from the many people whose lives she's touched.  She loves notes, texts and chocolate!
