Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Karen was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of August,2017.  In late September she had a lumpectomy at Medical City Irving hospital. It was a day surgery and only took a few hours. Good news - the cancer had not spread to her lymph nodes or anywhere else. Bad news - there was still some residual cancer cells in her breast. 2 weeks later she had a second lumpectomy. Bad news - there is still some cancer cells in her breast.

We are now seeing another surgeon who is recommending a mastectomy of the left breast and reconstruction. Basically they are going to remove everything from the inside of her breast and refill it with fatty tissue from her tummy. This will be a full day in the operating room, 8-10 hrs., plus a few hours in recovery and 4 days in the hospital. We have met with both surgeons 3 times in preparation, she has had x-rays, mammograms, sonograms, biopsies, EKG's, blood labs, and CT scans. We're ready.

I will try to keep everyone as up to date as possible. Please send her your prayers.

Dan
