Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.   We appreciate your support and words of hope , encouraged and prayers.

Karen was having lower abdominal pain and decided to get it checked out by her local doctor. After an initial ultrasound and then MRI was completed - it was discovered she has 2 masses located on what appeared to be her ovaries. On May 31st, she met with a surgeon at Mayo Clinic in Rochester and had a very long surgery to remove the tumors. Surgery for the most part went okay. Initially, they had hoped to do a laparoscopic surgery to remove the tumors. However, during surgery - the biopsies of the left tumor did show a cancer so it was then decided to do a complete abdominal hysterectomy. Besides a knick in an artery during surgery that was quickly repaired - surgery was long but very successful. All reports indicated that the cancer was contained and we are looking at a stage 1 ovarian cancer. We were very very happy with this news as ovarian cancer often times if found when it is more advanced.  Karen was discharged on June 3rd. Goal is to recover from surgery and then complete some chemotherapy to help prevent reoccurrence.
