Welcome everyone. We have decided to use this CaringBridge site instead of email because it is easier for many to use and easy for us  to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

On Sunday, December 18th, 2016, Mom/Karen woke up so ill she called an ambulance for herself. Not long after arrival to St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee it became clear something significant was wrong. By mid-morning her care team had determined she likely had a pulmonary embolism--the result of a blood clot leaving her leg, traveling through her heart (which, by some miracle, did not take her from us), and settling above her lungs. The ER doctor determined she needed to be transported to Abbott, and while he was in consult with a team of three Abbott specialists, Mom began to deteriorate quickly. Fortunately for us, the efficient and expert care of the St. Francis team kept Mom with us and she was brought by Life Flight helicopter to Abbott. During the flight, her blood pressure required quick action by the flight nurses, who again kept her with us. She was admitted to the ICU at Abbott's Heart hospital.
