This journey began Wednesday January 20, 2016. I was driving the three boys that I nanny to hockey practice that evening. Kaitlin was off of work and was kind enough to ride with. At approximately 5:45 pm, on Highway 210,west of Aitkin, I was beginning to accelerate after slowing down for a car that was turning right. With the icy conditions, the truck I was driving started to fishtail out of control. That's when the oncoming vehicle hit us. Little did we know, that vehicle was Chad coming home from work!
We were all taken by ambulance to Riverwood HealthCare Center in Aitkin. Chad was transferred by ambulance that evening to St Mary's in Duluth with a C2 vertebrae fracture. This was surgically repaired the next day and he has been discharged and is recovering at home. We respectfully ask for privacy for Chad as he begins this road of recovery. He is expected to be off of work for four weeks and is projected to be in a neck brace for 12 weeks.
I was admitted for observation and discharged the next day with bumps, bruises, a couple severely bruised ribs and a grateful heart.
Kaitlin was admitted to Riverwood and then transferred to St Mary's in Duluth the next day. She was admitted there with a traumatic head injury and moved two doors down from Chad. That's where her journey began
