This all started technically before Kadance was born but we found out at her 9 month check up when I felt a bump on her back.  It was then that we found out she had an extra hemi-vertebra (half of a vertebra)  which is causing scoliosis.  She has a curve that measures between 49 degrees and 51 degrees.  She has been followed by an amazing Dr. Tanner Guillume every six months since.  It was decided that when she is 5 she will have surgery to correct the curve. If it is not done now the curve will get worse and go to more vertebra's of her back causing a more intense surgery when she is older.

Surgery is scheduled for June 29, 2020.  For surgery they are going to take out the extra half vertebra and then squeeze the vertebra above it and below it together getting them as close together as they can.  If they can not get them to touch they will put a plate between the two disks to make then touch and then they will add 4 screws to keep them together.  Surgery will take about 4 hours but we will not be able to see her for probably 6 hours or so.  As they will need to also do a mold for her brace while she is under and then give her time to wake up.  She will be in the hospital for a minimum of  3 day as long as everything goes well.  She will then be in a back brace for 6 weeks with the only activity being walking when she can tolerate it.  She will wear her brace for 3 months.
