Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
This Journal is for my wife Julie Whitsitt. Julie is starting a journey that we hope leaves her with a pain free way of living. This process starts with the removal of her Pancreas. This operation is being done at UCSF hospital by the doctor that founded this type of operation. The Pancreas is removed and the insulin producing cells are extracted. The cells are then introduced into your liver which creates a home and starts producing insulin on its own, amazing right! You end up diabetic but if you can produce some insulin on your own it becomes much more manageable. I believe this has been done approximately 300 times with an 85% success rate of the liver accepting the cells.  Post OP leaves her in ICU for potentially 2-3 weeks. Probably 5-6 month recovery, then another 6 month tapering of Opioid use. Wish her luck and thanks for everyone's support.
