The short story: On Oct. 19th, Mom was diagnosed with stage 3b non-small cell lung cancer. Her ordeal started as severe back pain about 5 weeks prior to that and has resulted in an incidental finding of this lung tumor. It appears there is no metastatic disease, thankfully . Her first appointment with the medical oncologist was Oct 19th, where they gave her the biopsy results and outlined the recommended treatment regimen. Her next appointment with him and with the radiation oncologist is Oct 26th to further discuss her path forward and get a better feel for the side effects expected from the chemo and other treatment options.
She is still experiencing back pain from what was deemed degenerative disease based on an MR of the spine., so while we are sorting out the cancer treatment, we are trying to get our arms around the pain so she can sleep better.
