It's with a very heavy heart that we start this Caring Bridge Site for our sweet daughter, Julia.  Julia had noticed some tiny red spots and bruises on her legs and since she was transitioning from one job to another, she thought she'd get in one more visit before her insurance changed.  She saw that doctor on the Tuesday of this week. On Wednesday, she had her blood work done in California just prior to her getting on a plane to come to Portland to visit a friend who just had a baby.  Thursday afternoon (just yesterday) she received a call from her doctor telling her to go directly to an ER ASAP because her platelets were extremely low.  Another test was done and we learned she has Leukemia (AML).  It's a very aggressive form of Leukemia and usually targets much older individuals.  She was admitted immediately.  This morning (Friday 1/29) she had a bone marrow biopsy and chemo will start this afternoon. She'll have a 24 hour drip of one drug for 7 days and another continual drip of a different chemo for 3 of those days.  We are looking at an initial hospital stay of a month.   This is the induction phase. Once she is discharged she will come back to our house (Clay and Shari) indefinitely.  There will be another hospital stay (consolidation phase) down the road, but we will cross that bridge when we get to it.
