Julia Opher Julia’s heart surgery

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

As many of you know, Julia has a genetic challenge known as Marfan Syndrome. Within the syndrome the aortic root can stretch throughout the lifespan. It is now time for Julia to have open heart surgery to provide a wrap to support her aortic root to prevent further growth. Untreated aortic growth in Marfan syndrome clients ( as well as anyone else) can result in an aortic dissection which is fatal. Julia is in a place right now to be getting the surgery between graduating college and beginning her first job.
She will be undergoing the surgery at the University of Pennsylvania with a world renowned aortic heart surgeon, Dr. Bavaria on May 18.2022. We plan for her to be in the hospital from 4 to 7 days and then she will be recuperating in Malvern until June 15. After June 15 she will go to Myrtle Beach to recuperate.

We have had so much support along this life journey and I’m creating this site so that people can be kept up-to-date and also be helpful. Flowers and food will probably not be needed as a recovery from the heart surgery affects one’s appetite. Julie has created a thoughtful Amazon wish list if people wish to contribute items to be helping with her comfort and recreation! It feels difficult to be creating the site but I know in the long run it will be a good way to keep everyone posted.
Thank you!
