This has been my way of sharing the news since Wally and I had a very detailed consultation with the surgeon and nurse at the Jane Brattain Breast Center at the Park Nicollet Clinic.
I have a Category 1 cancer (slow growing) that is hormone receptive positive (good news) and HER2 negative (more good news). I am having an outpatient lumpectomy on Wednesday, Dec. 6 followed by radiation in January and February. The outlook is very positive.
I hope that this paragraph is not too graphic for you, but I want to share my experience to educate others. My cancer did NOT appear on a mammogram because it is "hiding" under a nipple. Please be diligent with your self-exams, including looking in a mirror for any irregularities, changes in symmetry or other visual changes in the appearance of your breasts or nipples.
We appreciate your well wishes and prayers. I trust in the wisdom of the medical team, I am thankful to have a wonderful companion and caregiver in Wally, and I know I am in the hands of a loving God.
