Jude was diagnosed with cancer on September 22, 2016. After quite a bit of abdominal pain and discomfort throughout the day he made it to the emergency room in Monticello. The doctor did a CAT scan it revealed a tumor in his rectum and spots on his liver. He was told he had 3 months to live if nothing was done. After a painful weekend with family he visited his usual clinic where they confirmed the diagnosis and referred him to an oncologist. On Tuesday, September 27 he had CAT and PET scans to give the oncologist more information. On September 28th he met with the oncologist Dr Noel Laudi, and he determined that the cancer was in his colon, liver, lungs and lymph system. The oncologist's belief was that Jude would not last through recovery if the tumor was removed so it was decided to start on chemotherapy first. Jude's prayer from the start was a clear understanding of the path God wanted him to take with regards to treatment. That prayer was answered when Jude met with the oncologist, a doctor who shared Jude's Catholic faith. As an additional blessing the doctor also offered to review Jude's mother's case to see if any changes should be made in her treatment of liver cancer. Jude is trusting in God to see him through this and has been moved by the outpouring of support that friends and family have expressed.
