Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most. We are using this site to make it easier for us to post updates on the progress of my treatment. We truly and deeply appreciate your caring and interest. Short Summary to date: I thought I had a hernia from last January. Abdominal discomfort got worse, led to a CT scan, which saw stuff, which led to a diagnostic laparoscopy, which discovered appendiceal (appendix) cancer. The appendix had ruptured, which is common, and there are cancer cells around the abdomen. Johns Hopkins uses a surgical/chemo technique which is very effective against this kind of cancer, and the surgery/chemo treatment is scheduled for Aug 12. The surgery is expected to be 6-12 hours in duration, and I'll be in the hospital for 1-2 weeks. And we are not asking for donations to us -- we're okay on that front. this is for keeping in contact.
