For those that know me, my journey has already been filled with challenges. In 2011, my husband David died of sudden cardiac arrest, changing our lives forever. David used to end each prayer with the words, ‘We thank God for all good things and we trust Him with the rest.’ I and my children have sought to live out his words each day.
The last week has brought a new challenge and opportunity to continue to ‘trust Him with the rest.’ In 2012 I had surgery for a herniated disk. I have had back/nerve issues since that time, but last Fall I started to have issues with my right hip. Physical therapy and time in the warm water therapy pool brought improvement. However, when COVID shut down everything, I no longer had access to either, which caused my hip and back issues to intensify.
After an appointment with my orthopedist on Tuesday (7/25), I was told that I needed a full hip replacement and that my L4/L5 disk had degenerated. An MRI was then done the same day of my lower spine. The MRI revealed cancer, which started a whirlwind of appointments and tests.
To be honest, the last three days have been overwhelming for both me and my family. But God is still God! He sees us. He knows us. None of this was a surprise to Him. Yes, we have a difficult and challenging journey ahead of us, but together we will continue ‘to thank Him for all good things and trust Him with the rest!'
Note - After further testing, it was confirmed that I have Stage 4 breast cancer that has spread to my spine, liver, and lungs.
