On April 1, 2016, Joycie was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Despite months of treatment during the summer of 2016, the tumor is continuing to grow. In December 2016 Joycie and Bud came to live with son Michael in West Fargo, to be closer to therapy and emergency services. On December 28th Joycie was admitted to the hospital with a perforated bowel. Joycie moved to the palliative care unit the next day.
