*** My Story ***
July 2019 | During our annual camping trip with the family up at Crow Wing Lake, I was experiencing some abdominal pain and also started bleeding -- something that was quite concerning to me after having gone through menopause more than 25 years ago. After returning home from our trip, I started seeing my doctors and went through a series of scans and tests. A biopsy of my uterus confirmed that there was Stage 3 cancer there. Though surgery and a full hysterectomy were the next steps in my treatment plan, that would have to wait. Very early on the morning of July 24th, I woke up with the chills, a high fever, and just couldn't stop shaking. I ended up in the ER and then got transferred by ambulance to Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Somehow I had developed an infection in my uterus, they believe from the biopsy that was done earlier. I was admitted into the hospital and was able to fight off the infection with IV antibiotics and the care of my doctors/nurses here. Initially, the plan was to send me home with oral antibiotics for 10 days after my fever had been gone for at least 24 hours. After an additional scan & even more tests, it was decided that the date of my surgery would get moved up. It was time. They didn't want to wait any longer. And I was ready, too.
