In June 2015, Joyce suffered her 3rd stroke which led to her being bedridden. She was hospitalized in June-Aug 2015, and had been rehabilitating at a nursing care home since then. Her prognosis was poor at that time but she beat the odds and was slowly showing signs of recovery.
On April 28th, 2016, Joyce was admitted to Island Hospital again, this time for a bleed in her brain. She received emergent surgery which saved her life, but now faces challenges of infection, fluid in the brain, and dependency on the ventilator.
