Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
This post was originally on Facebook, but thought I would make a page for everyone to be able to go and see updates.... especially since I started getting friend requests from her friends who I'm sure don't really care that much about what's happening in my family, but would like to know about my mom....So my mother, Joyce Hatlee (https://www.facebook.com/joyce.hatlee), who is definitely 1 in a million was diagnosed with adrenal gland cancer (which only affects 1 in a million) 3 weeks ago. We met with a surgeon (who is in the top 1%) at the University of MD Medical Center (St. Joseph's Cancer Institute) last week (hence the prayers) because most doctors never see this type of cancer, he basically told her to get her affairs in order and pray that she comes out of surgery. It will be a massive surgery (hopefully at the end of the month-she comes up for a PET scan on Friday & it will be decided if he can do it-if it hasn't spread, which he is worried about, so many prayers please). The adrenal gland sits above the kidney and is the size of a walnut (her's is bigger than a fist, so her kidney may also need to be removed). She has tremendous back pain and swelling of her extremities. Unfortunately, what we all thought was diabetes for the past 10 months has been this mass growing and causing the symptoms. Due to her age, the type, rehab, and living on the 2nd floor (plus the doctor doesn't want her back on the eastern shore for recovery) she will be coming to live with my family for 2-3 months. Joyce wants it posted on FB so her friends know what's going on, but not have questions for her. Well wishes & prayers are wonderful, but as you all know, not being able to close up the Oceanic is probably getting her more upset than needing surgery... The Harrison Group has her back which is a great stress reliever. Feel free to msg me for my address or any questions, but please only offer her laughter and prayers right now. Thank you all for your support during this time.
