Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated.
Mom was found on the floor of her Assisted Living on Jan 26th she was awake but not able to communicate very well. She was taken to St. John's where they proceeded to do numerous tests on her. They ruled out stroke, heart related issues and cancer. She had high calcium levels when they did a tests on the Kidneys. For someone with Dementia any sort of biological or environmental change can send the condition on a rapid decline. She had to spend the next several days in the hospital waiting for all the tests to be completed. During this time she lost all ability to walk or even feed herself on her own.
Long story short, she was eventually transported to a wonderful facility for transitional care. Unfortunately she has declined so rapidly that all she does now is sleep. During a care conference yesterday we were told that there is no benefit of continuing the PT or OT therapy. They are releasing her on Tuesday so she can go back home to Keystone Assisted Living where we made the hard decision to move her to Memory Care and call Fairview Hospice to help during this difficult time. We are hoping that she will rally when she is around her own things and at home.
We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.
