Around 8:30 am on Friday, April 27th Josh was struck by a car in Oak Park while riding his bike to school. He was only a few blocks away from our house. When we arrived at the scene he was already in the ambulance being worked on and they were ready to go. We knew immediately that his wrist was broken and he had facial and leg lacerations. Thankfully the paramedics took us to Loyola where they have great pediatric care for traumas. As the morning progressed Josh felt worse and worse. His head hurt, he was very sick and he became less and less alert. His situation went downhill quickly. A CT scan showed that he had a growing epidural hematoma that needed emergency surgery. Those moments were some of the hardest of our lives as we realized how serious this was. Seeing him in that state was terrifying. He was taken to the OR where his skull fracture was repaired (it was quite severe) and they removed the blood clot. He was then moved to the pediatric intensive care unit where he is now resting as comfortably as he can. The orthopedic docs just came and reset his wrist.
That's the simple version and we wanted to update all of our family and friends. I know not everyone is on social media so I thought starting this site would be helpful. I will update as things progress. My (Lisa) family is all on their way from Detroit and we are thankful for all the friends that have helped out and sent love. We have soaked up every bit of it. Please feel free to leave a comment for Josh as I know he would love to hear from you!
Josh is currently at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL. At this time is he in the pediatric intensive care unit.
