Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

In January, Jon had a plastic vein (fistula) put in his left arm for dialysis-which he receives 3 days a week. His body rejected the fistula and his arm became severely infected so the fistula was surgically removed at United Hospital in St. Paul on Feb 25th. He had to have another surgery several days later to remove dead tissue and a third surgery a few days after that to stop the bleeding. Jon remained in the ICU for a week after surgery due to a blood infection and stomach infection and was eventually moved to a surgical room until March 21st. He has since been transferred to Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul. The anesthesia and antibiotics have really taken a toll on his health and he has lost over 40 pounds. At Bethesda, Jon is receiving both cognitive and physical  rehabilitation. He has been in the hospital for over six weeks and it has been a long and stressful winter for both Jon and Collette. Jon is now well enough for visitors, although he has dialysis on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, making evenings and weekends the best time to stop by. Collette has been driving down to see him multiple times a week; she doesn't mind the drive and she really appreciates the gas cards friends have given to her.
