(From Rob Droste) In the interest of getting this site up and running, we won't lead off with a lot of background. For now, it will suffice to say that most of Jonathan's friends and family know of his health challenges over the last year and a half. There have been multiple surgeries to his right foot, and now the left foot is involved. Here's what Jonathan said earlier this week:
(From Jonathan on Sunday, January 8) I was hospitalized on Friday following a routine doctors appointment. The damage to my left ankle and leg has progressed. For several reasons, a new opinion was sought with a strong team of experts from Penn. Following a runaround day of tests and new procedures Friday, I was hit with some news: a great deal of profound crush damage had been missed by my prior doctor, there was rampant infection, and my foot is un-salvageable and threatening my life. A below the knee amputation will take place this week, with a prosthetic in place in the weeks following.
(From Rob) Please send cards to Jonathan c/o the diocesan office (808 W. State Street, Trenton, NJ 08618). We'll make sure they get to him at the hospital/rehab (when that happens), and, eventually, at home.
