On March 16, 2018, Jon went to the ER because he was having trouble breathing. He had influenza and due to his asthma, we were concerned about complications. At one point as they were working on his breathing, they came in after running some tests and informed us he was in acute renal failure. Jon spent a few days in CCU on dialysis treating his kidneys. Once he was doing better, doctors ordered tests to determine the cause. After a week of tests and biopsies, Jon was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Jon underwent an autologous bone marrow transplant in August 2018 and was confirmed to be in remission as of November 2018.
On April 21, 2022, Jon was admitted to the hospital for the 5th time in 6 months. He had been getting infections and had also gone through having COVID in January. Oncology was running tests and trying to figure out what is going on. He had a bone marrow biopsy on April 25th. The results were not what we wanted to hear. Jon has been diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma or DLBCL. It is an aggressive form, but it is one of the most common types which means there are options for him! He is currently undergoing R-CHOP therapy that has seen high success in patients. We are hopeful and will continue to keep this site updated along this journey.
