Jonathan Millwood

Thank you so much for all of the kind words we have received already! We really want to share Jonathan’s story with everyone, but we have had to take a couple of days to process before we could even begin to explain. We had to understand ourselves before we could share. 
 
Some of you may have known, and some of you may have no clue, but Jonathan battled a problem with prescription pills several years ago when he was prescribed medicine from a doctor to help with some anxiety. Unfortunately, he became very dependent on medication. Our family and close friends noticed some changes and realized that this had become a problem. We got him some help and he worked so hard to kick this addiction. It was not easy, but Jonathan was determined to overcome it and he had done that!!! We were all so proud of him and how far he had come. 
 
He had also given his life to Jesus! He grew up in the faith, but as he grew older and faced trials in life, he realized that he needed something more. About 5 years ago, he had a deep conversation with his dad, and the two of them prayed together, and Jonathan asked Jesus to come in his heart and rule over his life! He was so on fire for the Lord, and he was passionate about Jesus!! Our family is so comforted in knowing that he is in Heaven with our Lord and Savior. 
 
Jonathan has been living in San Diego, CA  for the last 2 years. He followed his big sister Whitney out there for work. Jonathan worked hard and moved his way up to become a District Sales Coordinator with Aflac. He had been very successful and was doing great!
He also met a wonderful girl in CA named Lanie. Our family all fell in love with her, and we were all amazed at how much she loved and put up with our crazy Jonathan. They even had a furry child together named McGreggor who they were both crazy about! We are so thankful that Jonathan was able to experience this deep love with Lanie, and we know they would have had such a bright future together.
 
We know there are a lot of questions and so many of you are yearning for answers. We won’t ever have all the answers, but we understand this yearning and will share what we know. This is what appears to have happened: Jonathan took an OxyContin pill last Friday morning. Unfortunately, this pill was not prescribed to him from a doctor. He got it from someone else. This one little pill had been cut with the deadly drug fentanyl. Jonathan had no idea that this was in there. The medical examiner has explained to us that this has been happening so much lately. These pills are getting laced, and even the smallest amount is fatal. They said it would have taken him instantly, within a matter of seconds. We are thankful knowing that Jon didn’t have to suffer or feel any pain. 
 
We know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he did not and would not have taken his own life. He was happy and so excited about his future. 
 
Jonathan Millwood was a 28 year old man with a full life ahead of him! He was not ready for his life to end. He was loved so deeply by his entire family. This was a freak accident that is a terrible tragedy! We are absolutely devastated, but we have faith! We are clinging onto that faith! We truly believe that God has a plan in all of this.
