On December 31, 2018, Jonathan went in for a endoscopy in response to some swallowing concerns and pain that he was having. The procedure showed a significant tumor positioned at the base of the esophagus where it connects to the stomach. He was taken directly to receive a CT scan which showed extensive lymph node involvement in his chest and upper abdomen as well as several nodules on his lungs. All of these findings were consistent with a diagnosis of metastasized cancer. January 2, 2019 (HAPPY NEW YEAR), Jonathan was admitted to the hospital for further testing and to stabilize him because he was experiencing malnutrition.
Our family loves the movie, The Emperor's New Groove. There is a scene in the movie where the two main characters are tied to a tree and about to fall over a waterfall. One of the characters mentions the fact that they are about to go over a dangerous waterfall with sharp rocks at the bottom and the other says BRING IT ON. We decided that is our family's way of describing this new journey with Jonathan. We trust that GOD's STRENGTH IS MADE PERFECT IN OUR WEAKNESS so... BRING ON THE WATERFALL! He's GOT this!
