This is our son Jon, or as he was when he was younger " Jon-Jon ". When he was sixteen he was the victim of an auto accident on September 12th 2010. The knock at our door in the middle of the night was my worst nightmare come true. He has an amazing strength and spirit and is just a beautiful young man. He suffered blunt trauma including a brain injury, spleenectomy, liver damage, multiple broken bones including his jaw, ribs, lower back, a shattered pelvis, both hips front and back and multiple bones in his left hand. There are three significant bleeds in his brain one of which has taken the sight from his right eye. The others have caused a personality change and some memory problems. He may never get all the feeling back in his left foot due to the nerve damage he has suffered. All of this because he got into a car with some friends and an under the influence driver to go to Taco Bell. The trauma team and everyone else involved worked relentlessly to save our son. The first time I saw him after the accident to "say good-bye" because he likely wouldn't make it through his first surgery I experienced shock and pain I never knew existed. Jon was given less than 10% likelihood of survival but with the help of God guiding the hands of all his caregivers we have been proving them wrong. He truly is a miracle and I thank God every day for the opportunity to see his smile and beautiful blue eyes. Life truly is a journey, I feel blessed to be a part of it with Jon.
