Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. John Willson is a healthy, strong, athletic dad and grandpa at 66 yrs old. Over the last couple years he has struggled with his lungs. He had pneumonia 4 times since June 2015 and ended up with a fungal pneumonia in April 2016 which landed him in the hospital for 2 weeks. Since then, he has been on oxygen 24/7 with no signs of full recovery. He was referred to the UCSD Lung Transplant Program. He was screened, evaluated, and accepted. Since the tapering of prednisone (part of the process to be listed), John has been on a rapid decline. He's lost alot of weight in a short period of time and has not been feeling well, overall. With his current condition, John was admitted at UCSD La Jolla on September 22. He is presently awaiting new lungs. It could happen anytime. His spirits are up! He's in the very best place with the very best care. We are so grateful to be with the Lung Transplant team that is assigned to him. They make us feel he is their only patient. Please continue to keep him in your prayers Until then, we are taking it a day at a time. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
