We finally got to come home from hospitals! After spending 37 out 44 days in hospitals in Carrollton and Atlanta, John is excited to be unplugged from the wires and tubes. He survived the blood loss from an infection /stomach ulcer. They replaced 3 units of blood, got him on antibiotics , and then had to rebalance all his levels of stuff I don’t understand so cannot explain. We met the Sacred Journey Hospice Nurse at our house, and they delivered the hospital bed, oxygen and other supplies. We had to switch hospice companies because the first one only did patients committed to end of life care without life-extending procedures or drugs. Although John came close to dying twice in the last month, and it is true that he is very sick, he had a ventricular pacemaker put in last week, and it helped him get thru the bleeding ulcer crisis , so we changed to a different hospice that does provide inhome and comfort care and allows for life extending meds and procedures.

That said, I am trying to get all this home care stuff and routines organized. He takes 14 different medications, some 3 x a day, some 2 x a day , some 1 time a day. He also has another 4 medications that need to be given as needed. He needs his vital signs taken twice daily and recorded. He needs 4 nebulizer treatment of 45 minutes a time. He is supposed to eat little meals 4-6 times a day, and I am still a lousy cook!
(A special thank you to those of you who sent gift cards that introduced me to Grub Hub, Door Dash, InstaCart, and Every Plate). John is not liking adult diapers and disposable underwear but once he gets some strength back, they shouldn’t be needed. I am learning to manage the mechanics of adjustable beds, lifts, commodes, and a trapeze that helps him pull up.

We love hearing from all of you. I share the photos, jokes, stories, politics, etc. I will keep you updated .

Thank you for being there for us with your prayers, encouragement, food, and support!
