John Shannon Supporting John Shannon

First post: Aug 6, 2021 Latest post: Sep 22, 2021

First off, all four Shannon girls and parents want to thank you for your support and good wishes during this difficult time.

In mid July, while our father was having some heart related scans done, a shadow on his pancreas was identified. Now through further tests and results, while he is symptom free and feels fine today, he was diagnosed with clinical stage IV pancreatic cancer. Surgery is ruled out and dad will likely be starting chemotherapy shortly (a second opinion and liver biopsy of lesions there are our final steps before proceeding).

Our parents both become Octogerians this year (circa 1941) and they have each shared with us girls that they 'have lived a great life and have to go sometime' — we just don’t want it to be this soon but also want Dad to have the best quality of life with his remaining time. Affectionately referred to as “the Marshmallow”, (sometimes leaving those more challenging conversations with us to our mom), God bless her!  But our dad has always been supportive and the best dad we could ask for, and none of that will ever change. It is now our time to help him as much as we possibly can and there is still hope he can beat the odds and be one of the 10% to survive!

This Caring Bridge was created to spare our mom a large volume of repetitive inquiries and good wishes from so many wonderful family and friends. We— the four girls - plan to share these wishes but also communicate when we can on their behalf so they can share precious time together and rest as needed. We share our love and thank yous in advance for your support, prayers, and good wishes during this difficult time
