John and Anke were involved in a traffic accident near Ogallala, Nebraska on the afternoon of September 26th.  A driver crossed the median on the highway in a construction zone and struck their car. Anke was pronounced dead at the scene. John survived and was flown to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska with significant injuries. While at Scottsbluff it was determined that John had many broken bones, however, his internal organs, brain and spine were all intact (though his spine has a couple fractures).

The medical staff at Scottsbluff determined that John needed to be transferred to a higher level hospital which was delayed as they tried to stabilize John's blood pressure. On September 29th, his blood pressure stabilized and he was transferred to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado where they have specialists able to perform the surgeries he requires to heal. John currently has family with him.

If you were thinking of sending flowers, unfortunately they aren't allowed in John's room. Please send good thoughts and well wishes. If you'd like to contribute in another way, we are sure John would appreciate donations to his prairie non-profit (http://friendsofbrooklyn.org.s3-website-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/P_Donate.html), where he spends much of his time volunteering. He could then have that beauty waiting for him on his return.
