On July 4th, John fell down the stairs in his home and stopped breathing. He was initially taken to McHenry hospital but was immediately flighted to a level 1 trauma hospital. In the fall he fractured his skull and neck.  The severe bleeding caused intercranial pressure and he had emergency craniectomy and part of his frontal lobe was removed. He was then transferred to the surgical ICU.
