John McGaughy

First post: Feb 9, 2023 Latest post: Jan 15, 2024
We are creating this page so friends and family of John McGaughy can receive updates on his journey to health, send him love, laughs (since we all know he's the best at that) and support throughout this process.

For those of you who are just receiving this information for the first time, John went in for a CT scan on February 7th, 2023 after suffering from persistent headaches he thought might be a lingering symptom from COVID he had during the holidays, however on the scan they found a mass. The following day he went in for more tests and an MRI where they determined based on the size and rapid growth (he had a scan 6 months earlier with no abnormalities) that he did in fact have a cancerous tumor in his right frontal lobe.

Today, February 9th, he is being admitted to Swedish Hospital in Denver where he will have surgery tomorrow at 1:30 to remove the tumor, so that it can be analyzed to determine the exact type and course of treatment needed to kick its ass to smithereens (pardon the language but this deserves all the cuss words). They believe he will be in the ICU for 2 days post-surgery and then on the main floor for 2 days, potentially returning home on Monday.

There are still a lot of unknowns at this point in terms of what the next course of treatment will be, how he will feel after surgery and what they will need as a family. John's parents have arrived from Atlanta and are here to support him, Maggey, Ada and Chappy which provides comfort during this scary time as does the outpouring of love from all of John's friends. What’s clear is John has a HUGE community of friends and family who love and support him. I know everyone is eager to do something to help, so once we have more information as to what they need as a family, we will share that here. For now, we have the next handful of days handled for meals for them and will set up a meal train and other ways you can support their family once we know more.

Please send all of your positive energy, prayers and love out to the universe for John and his family.

With love,

Kara Wetherill
