January 2019: Thank you for visiting John's CaringBridge site. We will be using this site to update all friends and family on John's health status, doctor appointments, treatment, and results. We will update as frequently as possible on John's behalf so he can simply rest and save his strength to focus on getting better (and beating cancer)! John appreciates all the prayers, love and support that he is already receiving.

John's Story:

After a normal visit to the doctor this Fall 2018, John had noticed that his blood sugar levels were very irregular. In the following weeks, John's blood sugar levels took an unexpected turn for the worse and rose to a very dangerous level which prompted John to return to his physician for a follow up appointment. During this follow up appointment, John had also complained of abdominal pain as well. The doctor ordered John to receive a scan of his abdomen to see if he could pinpoint the problem. Unfortunately, the scan showed that John's gall bladder was full of gall stones and, in addition, some lesions were discovered around his liver and pancreas area.

Following this appointment, John spent some time with close family over Christmas. He was visibly unwell and tired, and informed the family that he was scheduled for an additional scan and  biopsy on January 10, 2019  that would allow us to fully understand what was causing all of these issues.

The biopsy results came in on January 14, 2019. It was at that time that John contacted his father, Jim Hennes, younger sister, Debbie Hennes, and younger brother, Rob Hennes, to inform them that he had been officially diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. At this stage of the disease, surgical treatment is not an option. Instead, the oncology team that is working with John will begin  chemotherapy treatment on January 24, 2019 where the goal is to reverse the growth of the cancer and place it in a remission status as quickly as possible.

John will be having his treatment at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic located at the Aurora Health Medical Center in Summit, WI. The oncologist that will be managing and leading John's treatment is Dr. Adam Siegel.

As you know, this is a VERY difficult cancer to treat. However, John is very strong and fully determined to FIGHT  and BEAT this! He is very blessed to have the support and love from all of you. Thank you in advance for all of your thoughts, prayers and best wishes.
