John was involved in a work related accident where he suffered third degree burns to 47% of his body. The primary areas affected were from the waist up involving the arms, trunk, back and face. He is currently at the Hennepin County Medical Center on the ICU burn unit in stable condition. He is intubated and heavily sedated; this was done to preserve his airway related to the amount of swelling that has since developed. The skin is the largest organ in the body and serves to prevent infection and regulate the core temperature so the goal in the next 24 hours is to heat/maintain the body's core temperature, prevent infection with frequent dressing changes and maintain fluid balance with intense intravenous fluid resuscitation. John is surrounded by many loved ones and continued prayers would be greatly appreciated. I (Amanda) will update as I know more.
