Hi, This is John's sister-in-law, Patty Schroeder.  Mary has asked me to help set up this site so she can share information on John's current health situation in an easy, timely manner.  She and/or I will be posting here when there are any updates.  


On June 10, 2021, John,  woke up at 2am with pain and nausea in the abdomen.  He alerted Mary at 6am and they determined they needed to go to the hospital, St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon, Illinois.  The doctor there determined that he has acute pancreatitis with necrosis a the head of the pancreas.  The doctor told him he should see a specialist.  Hospitals in St. Louis were contacted (Barnes Jewish and SLU) but they weren't able to take his case and that they didn't have a bed for him(!).  A doctor and hospital bed were found in Springfield, Illinois (about 90 minutes from their home) and John was finally transferred to St. John's Hospital last night about 6pm.   In order for his digestive track to have a break and get less inflamed he can't have any food or water, not even ice chips.  He's on saline and antibiotic IVs.  The doctor has ordered a scope procedure so they can see the pancreas, kidneys and liver.  


Mary scrambled to find their dog, Aspen, a place to board for several days (so many places were booked because of the busy summer season).  Today (June 11) she finally found a place in Marysville, IL, about 30 miles away.  She drove to Springfield today and will post more when there is an update.
