On June 12 I will have open heart surgery at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. I have been aware this was going to be happening for some time. About 4 years ago my cardiologist, Neil Sawhney, informed me that at some point I would need to have this type of surgery. A bengn heart mummer which I had for most of my life suddenly wasn't bengn. My heart is working 10 times harder than it should, which is my heart doctors's signal to call in the surgeon. They plan to replace my Aorta value with a cow's valve which is considered the best replacement for my kind of disease. The aorta valve sends the blood through the arteries which feeds the entire body. In addition, I require 4 bypasses to return normal blood flow to my heart. The operation takes from 6-7 hours and I will be in ICU for around 24 hours and in the hospital for about a week. Vicky will be giving updates and you can respond here in notes to me and Vicky and I will reply. Recovery will take between 3 and 6 months. One stellar piece of news, Dominicans Cardio team is among the top rated in the country. I was delighted to find that news.
