Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Our family has been on a journey since October 5th. John Sr. had developed fluid on his left lung. The fluid was drained but quickly came back. A few days later, John was at work when he blacked out. His co worker called 911 and me, John was admitted to the hospital. This is where our journey really began. While in the hospital John's lung was drained again this time with a chest tube and we also noted significant weight loss. During his stay he was subject to lab work, x-rays and CT scans to see what was going on. The CT scan showed an abnormality in his left lung. He was then sent to have a PET scan. This scan detects cancer cells. The scan showed positive results for malignancy in the pleural lining of his lung and the lymph nodes under his armpit and chest. The doctors ordered a biopsy of the lymph node. John is home now.
We received the results of the biopsy yesterday. The diagnosis is Pleural Mesothelioma- Stage 4. This is a rare and aggressive cancer that is treatable but not curable other than by the grace of God. Mesothelioma is caused by asbestos exposure. They are not sure where John was exposed but are assuming it was during his military career where he worked on ships and also served front lines in the Persian Gulf War.
We have a difficult journey ahead of us. We ask for your prayers, love and support. We will do our best to keep this site updated so everyone will know what is going on. And we appreciate all of your texts, emails and calls- we are so thankful for all of our family and friends that share their love and support to our family- each and everyone of you mean so much to us. Please understand if we don't' respond to your call or text it's not that we don't want to or are ignoring you, it has been a struggle to just get through the last few days emotionally and physically.
We are taking this one day at a time, step by step, prayerfully for successful treatment.
We are going to fight this cancer!! John will begin chemo next week. Please pray for a positive response to the chemo and healing. We need all of your prayers!!!
