Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. After years  of treatment for cardiomyopathy, John's diagnosis was changed to heart failure and recently it became evident that he needs a new heart. Fortunately, in this era of scarce availability of organs, medical technology makes it possible to attach a mechanical pump to the heart. On Thursday, December 29, John underwent surgery to have a Left Ventricular Assistive Device attached to his heart - if you're curious to find out more about the technology, you can do an internet search for "LVAD." Without this option,  he would not have long to live. We will update this site periodically to let you know how he is doing post-surgery.  John will have a period of recovery lasting at least 3 months once he is discharged from the hospital, so we will be adding information about ways to assist us during this challenging time for our family. We are deeply grateful for the support we are receiving from you all and we send you our heartfelt (no pun intended) thanks. John, Gwenn and Morgen
