For a few months, John was struggling with intense bone pain but figured it was due to his leg issues he's had his whole life. Then in November, he started getting a cough that wouldn't go away. Later the loss of appetite, fatigue weight loss and other symptoms set in. Our fantastic family doctor, George Ellis, started to dig deeper into John's issues. On January 6th, our lives changed in an instant when John was diagnosed with cancer at age 28. We still had to wait for answers to find out the type. He went through a bone biopsy on January 12th. On January 19th, we were told that John is fighting Stage IV, Non-Small Lung Cancer (adenocarcinoma). This type is rare, but typical patients are non-smokers and young like John. His cancer has metastasized to his bones, lymph nodes and brain. This diagnosis completely shocked John, his fiance Kristine, family and friends. This type of cancer is not curable, but can be treatable. John will probably never be declared completely "cancer free", and will have to be on treatments for the rest of his life. We are hopeful for the many new and groundbreaking treatments available and that one day; we might find a cure.
