Hi, I'm John Beske and I run a graphic design and marketing agency with my wife. I've recently been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). A couple of weeks ago, I was very seriously sick, but the folks here at Loyola Hospital have brought me more than halfway back to good health (at least for now). I've always been in completely great health and I eat a really healthy vegan diet, so it's kind of a shock to find out I have cancer, though I'm sure it would be a pretty major shock for just about anyone.
Fortunately, or so I'm told, I have a type of ALL called Philadelphia. There is a really powerful treatment for it, and recovery chances are good. The other good thing is that it's generally treated via outpatient and I'm expected to leave the hospital in a few days. I expect that within a week or two, I will be living at something close to my normal life.
The other wonderful thing is that I have been so supported by an amazing community of family, friends, colleagues and other well-wishers. My wife, Marla Rose, has been absolutely amazing throughout all of this and she has shown incredible strength and resilience, plus an abundance of pure love. And my brave son Justice has picked up a lot more responsibility while I'm not home to help take care of things. So many others have supported us and I am profoundly grateful to them all.
I have been keeping a journal of my experiences as I go through what I am seeing as an adventure, and if you click on the Journal link above, there are some what I hope you will find to be interesting stories.
Lastly, I have a modest GoFund Me page for anyone who is so inclined (absolutely, this is not a sales call): https://www.gofundme.com/help-john-beat-leukemia
