Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Please feel free to share this link to anyone you may know who knows and loves our father.  Thank you for visiting.

Dad fell in January sustaining a skull fracture.  At that time, there was no bleeding in his head and he was discharged to home.  Throughout the last couple of months, he's been more clumsy (although hiding it very well).  On Friday, 3/13/2020 he was working in the basement, felt weak, and sat on the floor.  He called for Mom's caregiver and she called 911 since he was unable to get up on his own accord.

At first, the paramedics were thinking he had a stroke because he had a left facial droop and was weak on his left side.  It turned out that he had a very large subdural hematoma (brain bleed) in his head that was shifting his brain over to the other side.  All of the doctors and nurses were amazed how well he looked based on his scans!  He's one strong man, that's for sure!  I call him an ox (lovingly, of course!).

He underwent emergency brain surgery that night.  Unfortunately, he's been experiencing seizures so he has not been able to be liberated from the ventilator yet.  The anti-seizure medications finally have the seizures under control, but he hasn't yet woken up.  The doctors are hopeful that with time, he will get better.  It helped that he looked so good before surgery which is what is giving the doctors hope.
