About 6 weeks ago we visited an urgent care center as Joey was complaining of pain in his rib cage area. After an xray, CT scan, PET scan and a biopsy we received the diagnosis of Metastatic lung cancer stage 3a. The stage may change as we wait for the results of the thorosentesis and brain MRI.

Dr Alden the oncologist explained last week that Joey has a basketball of a tumor. It has infected all 3 of his lobes of his lung as well as 2 ribs and has fluid around it. Not operable at this time however sending us to a surgeon to see what surgeon says (we are at Penn now waiting to talk to Dr Senghal.)


Even if it does become operable it would be of heroic measures, most likely he would lose a lung and the 2 ribs, this would drastically change his life but to be discussed if they can get it to that point.


Dr Alden has Joey on the agenda to discuss with the board and our next appointment with him is next Wed 12/4.


Port is scheduled to be put in this Friday 11/29.
