On December 21, 2018 Joe had lunch and about an hour later started to not feel well.  By 3:45 he was in so much pain, he called Pauline to ask her to take him to the hospital.  By the time Mom got out to the ranch, he was in so much pain that she called an ambulance and met them on the highway heading to Hot Springs.  Dad had a CT scan in Hot Springs, but was sent on to Rapid City pretty quickly.  In Rapid he was diagnosed with Pancreatitis, which means his pancreas had become inflamed.  He was in A LOT of pain.  Over the next couple of days, things seemed to improve but on December 23 his condition began to deteriorate.  By December 25 he had been moved to the ICU, intubated, heavily sedated, and in critical condition.  We will be posting updates here as to his recovery.  We expect him to be in the ICU for at least a month.

The doctors have told us that he entered the hopsital with stage 1 Pancreatitis but it has already progressed to stage 2.  There are only 3 stages.  Pancreatitis is very painful, very wicked, and very hard on your body.  Take good care of your pancreas people.

Our family is asking for big prayers for our Dad.  It will be a long road of recovery for him.
