Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Sunday Nov 24th, Joe had an accident where he fell from the attic to the garage floor.  He landed on his back and hit his head on the concrete.  He was knocked unconscious temporarily.  He fractured the back of his skull along with several ribs and parts of his mid and upper back (did not fracture his spine).  He also has what are believed to be facial fractures.  The fall caused a traumatic brain injury to his frontal lobes.  There was initially small bleeds in his brain but they seem to be under control.  We are thankful as although that sounds bad the physical injuries could definitely have been much worse.

The brain injury is a different story.  He has severe memory loss and is not aware of where he is or why he is there.  His family is standing by the bed most of the day and speaking with him  to assure him that he is safe, well taken care of, and its ok that his memory isn't currently working.  He is frequently alert, will open his eyes, answer questions, and is able to get up with assistance out of the bed and move to the chair.  So the brain is doing some great things already!

There is a long road ahead.  Next steps will be to leave this hospital and go to a neuro rehabilitation facility.  That next location has not yet been decided.

Please pray for continued healing of Joe's brain and memory.  Pray that he won't be scared when things aren't familiar and won't be discouraged when he's not able to quickly remember or communicate.  Please pray for Jody and other family members that God would give them strength to continue on what will be a long road; and also for courage to handle seeing him this way.

We KNOW and TRUST that it will get better.  Today on Thanksgiving we are thankful for your prayers and notes of encouragement.
