Joe Boyd

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your prayers, support and words of hope and encouragement.  As many of you know, a few weeks ago, Joe had a sudden pain in his lower leg and shortly thereafter was admitted to Harris Methodist HEB hospital. They initially found a blood clot but soon there after the leg started to swell and have an obvious serious infection as well as Joe having sepsis (a blood infection). He had emergency surgery to clean out the severe infection in his leg and with the help of the antibiotics was able to rally and pull through a life threatening night.  The blood cultures came back and the hospital said that Joe is the first reported case of flesh eating bacteria (from the Gulf region) at HEB hospital; actual name is "Vibrio Vulnifus". He started to recover overall but his leg was left with a very large wound that would require skin grafts and multiple surgeries.  Unfortunately, on May 21st he started to run a fever again and the infection is traveling up his leg.  At this point his leg has lost so much flesh that the doctors have said the best case scenario is enduring major skin grafts and long hospitalization and recovery time and the worst case scenario is having to amputate his leg. 4 surgeries later, Joe is still in need of some serious prayer from all his wonderful family and friends!!!  We will be on periodically to give updates and post if there is a need for other support like meals and finances.
