Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Joe has had a horse voice since March 2016.  He finally visited doctors, had a biopsy and found out he has cancer on his vocal cords.  It is not an aggressive cancer and was caught in the early stages.  The tumor/tumors encompass his left vocal cord and half of his right vocal cord.  It is also in the "anterior" of the voice box.  In other words, very difficult to get to with a laser.  After visiting with the surgeon (twice) and radiologist, we have decided that the best route for a quality of voice is with radiation.  He has an 80% chance of cure and we are confident that this will take care of the cancer.  He will still have his voice box and will probably keep his raspy voice that he now has.

Joe will be having another CT scan and meeting with the radiologist on Tuesday, October 25th.  We hope that the treatments will start about the 1st of November.  He will have 29 treatments - every day except holidays and weekends.  Radiologist has told us that he will probably get very weak and ill two weeks after his treatments are over.  We are hoping that if all goes well, we will be able to head south sometime after Christmas.

We decided this was the best way to communicate with our family and friends since I am still working the elections at Washington County until Thanksgiving.  We really appreciate all your support and prayers...so thank you from both of us.
