Hi Friends,

Thank you so much for caring about me and checking in.   I'm realizing just how much the tender concern of friends really helps!  You probably know that I'm facing a very unexpected diagnosis of colon cancer.  Surgery is Mon, Oct 14th.  I'll be in the hospital 2-3 days.  Hilary is coming (💖) and will be posting here about how the surgery goes and whether I'm up for visitors.

We'll get the post-op report by Oct 21st.   Hopefully it will be good news that we've caught this early, and life will be pretty much back to normal in about 3 weeks.   Otherwise I'll have some decisions to make about what kind of treatment to consider.   I have a great surgeon and an open, caring oncologist.  Delightful as they both are, hopefully I'll have little reason to see much of them ... unless we run into each other at Trader Joe's.

Besides prayers and good thoughts ....

...If any of one would like to bring a meal between the time I go home from the hospital and early November that would be splendid! Two meals a week for 3 weeks will bring encouragement and good cheer to our hearts and tummies! 🍴  A number of friends have made offers along these lines, so if culinary skills or time are in short supply, I'm sure we've got it covered!  Vegetarian meals with organic ingredients are the very best for bouncing back from this kind of cancer.  Fish or chicken are alright too, but for sure no red meat at all.    Sending encouraging messages through this website are as nourishing to the soul as food is to the body, so there are lots of ways to buoy me through this time.

At this point I'm able to balance a lighter approach with the seriousness of the diagnosis.   I hope you will too...

grateful for this circle of friends,

Joan
