Welcome to Joan's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Joan has rheumatoid arthritis and has been managing this disease since she was a teenager. She has tried many different medications throughout this journey to manage her pain and to hopefully slow down the progression of the arthritis.  Unfortunately the side effect of the medication is weakening of the immune system.

On Friday, August 30th, she was taken to the ER at Ridgeview Hospital in Waconia with pain and swelling in her right leg.  After testing and examining it was decided she needed surgery to remove a very serious bacterial infection.  She was transported by ambulance to Abbott Hospital and had surgery at 3 am on Saturday, August 31st.  On Sunday, September 1st, the doctors felt they had removed all of the infection and no further surgery was needed.  She was then transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul to the critical care and trauma unit to recover.

Joan's 93-year-old Mom, Hildegarde, has been by her side every day.  Her family has also been there to give support and love.  Please keep her in your prayers.  May God bless her recovery...  🙏
