Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. On Sunday, September 1, 2019, Nate and Joanna were enjoying Labor Day weekend with family and friends at Jason and Tori's home. Joanna dove off into 5 feet of water. Her head hit the bottom of the pool and she immediately lost feeling below the neck. Thanks to the quick actions by Ciara and her sister Greenleigh, they recognized that Joanna was not moving and quickly brought her to the surface. Joanna was stabilized in the pool until Fire and Medical arrived and transported her to Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, California. MRI's showed a fracture of the C5 vertebrae in her neck. Surgery was performed on Tuesday evening. The vertebrae was removed and a cage placed to support the spinal cord. A halo was attached to support her head/neck. Joanna is showing her marvelous strength and determination. By Friday she has regained feeling in her arms and left leg. She is starting to move her right leg, and know it won't be long until that happens. The next phase will be acute rehab at an inpatient facility. Nate is researching the options available and what will best fit Joanna's needs and still be close to home and family. A Go Fund Me page has been established by family to assist Nate, Joanna, and Logan as they recover from this devastating accident.
