This CaringBridge is for close family and friends of JJ Sivak. We are using it to keep Y'all updated in one place. Jay suffered serious injury to his back when thrown from a ferris wheel on New Year's Eve in Minneapolis. Fortunately the general and neurosurgery teams at Hennepin County Medical Center worked together to perform a long, complex surgery on Tuesday Jan 3 which went very well. He spent 2 weeks at Knapp Rehab at HCMC and on January 20 returned home to Duluth for continuing rehab and healing. Jay faces challenging rehab in the coming weeks and months. His L1 fracture was repaired and he is currently able to walk slowly, and do exercises. The mandatory back brace is painful and cumbersome to all daily routines. He is extremely brave as he faces other uncertainties, with hope for full recovery. Thankfully, he has his clarity of mind and musical skill, and though his spirit is challenged each day though pain and frustration, he keeps rallying to the necessary tasks. This is unbelievably difficult... But he is strong and doing the work and a hero to us all. Jay plans to walk through graduation at Loyola University New Orleans in May... Please keep him in your thoughts! We all appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
